Uniform Operations Division
Special Operations Section

The Pima County Sheriff's Department’s Special Operations Section, of the Uniform Operations Division, provides enforcement, investigative, and tactical support to both the Uniform Operations and Criminal Investigations Divisions. This is accomplished through the eight separate specialized units that comprise Special Operations: the Air Support Unit, Bomb Squad, Canine Unit, DUI Unit, Motorcycle Enforcement Unit, Safe Streets, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), and Traffic Unit. Each deputy assigned to Special Operations is considered an expert within his or her area of specialty and are among the hardest working and most dedicated members of the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

The Air Support Unit provides covert, nighttime patrol support, and covert daylight surveillance for illegal activity. The Unit also provides prisoner transport for extraditions. In 2003, the Unit transported 370 prisoners in Department planes. more...
