Barricaded subject arrested for firing weapon at deputies.http://pimasheriff.org/bulletins/barricaded-subject-arrested-for-firing-weapon-at-deputies./On May 17, 2012, at approximately 10:45 p.m. deputies from the San Xavier District responded to the 5600 blk. of West Louisiana Street in reference to an unknown problem. Neighbors called 911 to report that they could hear yelling coming from a residence in the area. Upon arrival, deputies located the residence. As they approached the residence, a male subject discharged a gun at the deputies.

Deputies immediately locked down the scene and attempted to negotiate with the subject to come out of the residence. The Pima County Sheriff’s Regional SWAT Team responded for a barricaded subject. It was also unknown if any other individuals were inside the residence.

At approximately 4:30 a.m., the subject identified as Rodney Bruce Woodville (DOB 02/19/56) voluntarily exited the residence and was taken into custody. It was discovered a short time later that there was no one else inside the house.

Mr. Woodville has been arrested on 4 counts of Aggravated Assault, 1 count of Weapons Misconduct, and 1 count of Arson of an Occupied Structure.

Mr. Woodville had constructed very crude improvised explosive devices containing fragmentation. During the SWAT entry, a Regional Technician observed IED components and a blast seat where an IED had exploded. Several hazardous chemical experiments were also located. EOD members from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, the F.B.I., and Marana Police Department are currently working with the ATF laboratory. The chemical mixtures are being assessed and a disposal plan is in place.

Hot Weather Tips for the coming summer months.http://pimasheriff.org/bulletins/hot-weather-tips-for-the-coming-summer-months./The triple digit season is upon us. As we enter the beginning of summer, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department would like to offer the following suggestions to minimize heat related incidents for everyone from the avid hiker to the occasional walker.

- Arrange outdoor activities before 10:00 a.m. and after 4:00 p.m. to avoid the worst heat of the day;

- Always apply sunscreen before going out – wear a hat and light colored, loose fitting clothing made from “breathable” fabrics. Long sleeved shirts and pants will minimize fluid loss through perspiration;

- Hydrate adequately. Drink at least one quart of fluid for each hour you are out doing physical activity. Water is best, but after extended periods of time outside, replenish with a “sports drink” for electrolyte replacement;

- Plan activities to include others; do not hike or walk alone;

- Carry a cell phone for emergencies;

- Tell someone where you are going, when you will return, and what route(s) you will be taking.

Heat Exhaustion

Heat exhaustion is a common heat related condition. Possible warning signs of heat exhaustion include:

-Extreme weakness
-Exhaustion
-Headache
-Profuse sweating
-Cool, moist, pale or red skin
-Nausea and vomiting

Immediately get the victim into a cooler environment or out of the direct sun. Apply wet cloths and encourage sips of water unless nausea and vomiting occur. Stay away from caffeine and alcohol, they will only add to the dehydration already present. Medical attention should be sought out for these individuals; however, symptoms tend to correct themselves with proper care, intake of fluids, removing themselves from the sun, and resting.

Heat Stroke

Heat stroke is a serious life-threatening condition. Signs of heat stroke include:

-Unconsciousness
-Dry, hot, red skin
-High body temperature
-Rapid, shallow breathing

Heat stroke, which can be fatal, is the next step after heat exhaustion. Victims should be cooled off as quickly as possible by wrapping them in cool cloths. Ice packs should be packed in the armpits or groin area, if possible. Remove the heat stroke victim from direct sunlight immediately and into a cooler environment if at all possible. Medical attention should be sought out immediately and the victim should be taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Heat exhaustion may turn into heat stroke very rapidly; as soon as signs of heat exhaustion are identified, preventative measures should be taken so heat stroke will not occur.

Graduation is just around the corner. Have fun but be safe!http://pimasheriff.org/bulletins/graduation-is-just-around-the-corner.-have-fun-but-be-safe/The Pima County Sheriff’s Department would like to extend sincere congratulations to all graduating classes of 2012. We need our graduates to understand that alcohol-related crashes remain a leading cause of death among teens. We need parents to continue to set clear and realistic expectations regarding underage drinking.

  • High school graduation is a reason to celebrate, but underage drinking is a serious problem with serious consequences. Alcohol is often a factor in teen automobile crashes, homicides, suicides, and other dangerous behavior.

  • Limit the number of passengers in the vehicle and you will limit the number of distractions. Make sure there is a clearly identified destination for the drive.

  • Forbid drinking and driving. Make it clear that one transgression will mean the loss of driving privileges.

  • Children emulate whom they respect. If you drive at excessive speeds with your 16 year-old in the vehicle, why shouldn’t they? Set an example. Obey the law.

Applicable laws are as follows:

A person under 21 years old who uses false identification to buy or be furnished with alcohol is guilty of a class 1 misdemeanor – ARS 4-241 C & E

A person under 21 years old who asks someone else to purchase, sell or furnish them with alcohol is guilty of a class 3 misdemeanor – ARS 4-241 D

If you are under 21 years of age and are in possession of an alcoholic substance, you can be arrested and charged with a class 1 misdemeanor. If you are under 21 years of age, it is against the law to drive or be in control of a motor vehicle while there is any spirituous liquor in your body – ARS 4-244.33 & 4-244.40]]>
