May 2014 Field Release
DRMO - Equipment
Although the Sheriff’s Department has participated in the program for several years, the recent reduction in forces and involvement in both Iraq and Afghanistan has opened up significant opportunities for us. In the past three years, the Sheriff’s Department has acquired over $5 million worth of equipment. This equipment ranges from Bomb Squad robots, to hand tools, to office furniture. Strap cutters and 2 - long range accoustic devices (LRAD) are just a few of the items we have acquired. Normally, a LRAD would cost aorund $35,000. But through the DRMO program we got them for free. A LRAD is a device capable of delivering a message, warning, or pain inducing tone over a long distance.
While virtually any item imaginable may become available, members must keep in mind that it can take some time to identify suitable items to meet the need. This is especially true for more specialized or unique item requests. Detailed descriptions and, most importantly, a National Stock Number (NSN) are very helpful for screeners to identify available items. The NSN can be submitted through the search database on a regular basis until something becomes available. If you have any requests or questions, please contact Sergeant Chris Rogers or Deputy Brian Boll.
