In essence, Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program where neighbors watch out for each other and battle crime in their neighborhood. The purpose is to discourage criminals from even thinking about victimizing them or anyone else in their community. Criminals count on neighbors not knowing one another or just not wanting to get involved.

Neighborhood Watch is one of the most effective and least costly ways to prevent crime and reduce fear in neighborhoods. It’s neighbors helping neighbors in keeping their community safe. It forges bonds among residents and helps reduce burglaries and robberies.

Neighborhood Watch improves the relationship between law enforcement and the community they serve. You are only asked to observe and report suspicious activity to law enforcement. Confronting and apprehending criminals is the responsibility the Sheriff’s Department. Throughout the country, dramatic decreases in burglaries and related offenses are reported by law enforcement professionals in communities with active programs.

Neighborhood Watch also builds pride and ownership in communities. Know your neighbors and watch out for one another. Learn how to make your homes safer and more secure.

A Neighborhood Watch Program is easier than you might think to set up and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department is pleased to provide all the tools and education you need to get it started. For more information on how to start your own Neighborhood Watch Program, visit us on our website at pimasheriff.org or call us at (520) 351-4972.
