Social media is being used for many purposes these days. It’s a part of modern life, but it is also something more than that. Social media is an important part of current affairs.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department wants to better communicate with our Facebook and Twitter followers. We will be trial testing a new way of communicating on the first Tuesday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., beginning March 6, 2012.

We are asking the public to participate by going to the Pima County Sheriff’s Facebook page @ http://facebook.com/pimasheriff and help us select the first topic for discussion.

Some suggested topics are:

1) Careers in Law Enforcement
2) Traffic Related Issues
3) Mental Health
4) Volunteer Opportunities in the Sheriff’s Department
5) Self-Defense for Women (RAD)
6) Other Topics for Discussion

The Department will assign staff with specialties in the selected topics each month based upon interest from the community. The community will have advance knowledge of who they are asking questions of prior to the Q & A session.

The Sheriff’s Department cannot offer legal advice on specific cases; however, we can answer questions in more of a generic sense. We will ask participants to stay on topic. If there are specific questions not related to the topic at hand, we will ask those individuals to submit their questions through normal channels using the Sheriff’s Department’s website.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is eagerly anticipating the success of this new service. We are looking forward to hosting our live discussion monthly to the citizens of Pima County. Please vote on Facebook for a topic….or make a suggestion of your own.

While Facebook and Twitter are not new concepts, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department wants to make communicating with our citizens easier than ever…..instantly.
