On March 10, 2012, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a possible Child Molestation. Detectives of the Sheriff’s Crimes Against Children Unit began their investigation. They learned that the suspect, identified as Jacob V. Benson (DOB 06/13/86), had allegedly molested a teenaged family member.

During their investigation, detectives learned about multiple incidents where Benson had sexually violated the victim over the course of several months. They also learned that the victim had spent time with Benson in his hometown of Carnation, WA and that Benson still had ties to that area. Pima County Sheriff’s detectives attempted to telephonically contact the suspect, but he did not return their phone calls.

It was determined that Benson was in Washington state and did not intend to return to Tucson. An arrest warrant for Benson was obtained on charges of Attempted Sexual Assault. The Pima County Sheriff’s Fugitive Investigative Strike Team (FIST) contacted the King County Sheriff’s Office and requested their assistance with the apprehension of the suspect. During a sex offender round-up operation on June 30, 2012, conducted by King County Sheriff’s deputies, Benson was taken into custody.

He subsequently posted bond in Washington, returned to Tucson and turned himself in to authorities here on July 17, 2012.
