Man charged with murder took his own life

This morning at approximately 4:10 a.m., corrections officers of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department Adult Detention Center found 26-year-old inmate Jonathon Niles Kesterson unresponsive in his cell. He hung himself and had a bed sheet tied around his neck.
Kesterson was in the custody of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department on charges of First Degree Murder, which resulted from a homicide investigation regarding the death of his infant daughter. The body of the child was found buried in a desert area in Eloy on April 14, 2012.
The Sheriff’s Homicide Unit responded and is investigating the case. An autopsy is pending.
