Today, at approximately 4:23 p.m., the Pima County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a single vehicle roll-over accident on Palo Verde Road, south of Interstate 10. Upon arrival, deputies of the San Xavier District found a silver pickup truck, off the roadway in a wash. The vehicle lay on its driver’s side and the driver had been partially ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Traffic Unit responded to the scene as well. A witness who drove behind the pickup reported that she saw the truck drove in the left lane, when it suddenly made contact with the median curb. The driver then apparently lost control over the truck, veered across both lanes to the opposite side and jumped the curb on the west side of Palo Verde. The truck ended up down in a wash and on its side. Evidence found at the scene was consistent with the witness account.
The driver of the pickup truck was later identified as 46-year-old Michael Dean Duchene.
Investigators with the Sheriff’s Traffic Unit are continuing their investigation.
