Over the course of two months, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department Directed Patrol Unit for the Green Valley District received information about two individuals who were suspected to be involved in drug trafficking activity. Numerous sources reported information to deputies that substantiated their initial suspicions. Information was shared with Border Patrol agents.
On June 26, 2012, the intelligence developed throughout the investigation was confirmed. The two suspects, later identified as Robert and Irene Williams of Arivaca, were detained by Border Patrol agents when a canine alerted to the suspect’s vehicle at a Border Patrol checkpoint on Arivaca Road. Inside the vehicle, agents found 9 bundles weighing approximately 10 pounds. They turned the investigation back over to the Sheriff’s Directed Patrol Unit.
Deputies subsequently obtained a search warrant for the suspects’ residence, where they found an additional 40 pounds of marijuana, several weapons, vacuum sealers, scales and a small marijuana growth of 12 plants. All the evidence was seized and Robert and Irene Williams were arrested on charges for Possession of Marijuana for Sale.
The investigation continues in cooperation with federal law enforcement.
