The mission of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department’s Honor Guard is to publicly render the appropriate and deserving final honors, dignities, and respects to those heroes who unselfishly made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department’s Honor Guard was officially formed in 1985. The Honor Guard is a ceremonial unit, composed of department members who are carefully screened for their physical ability and dexterity. Only those persons who are highly motivated and maintain exceptionally high standards of appearance and conduct are likely to be considered.
A primary role for the Honor Guard is to provide funeral honors for fallen comrades. The Honor Guard also serves as the "guardians of the colors" by displaying and escorting the national and state flag on ceremonial occasions and at official functions.
