Training Section
   
Overview
The Training Section is responsible for coordinating, facilitating and instructing commissioned and corrections basic training, field training, Advanced Officer Training, firearms training and tactical training for the Department and other agencies.  The Training Section is comprised of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department Training Center and the Pima Regional Training Center.  There are twelve permanent Training Staff members, two commissioned sergeants, one corrections sergeant, six commissioned deputies and three corrections officers, who are responsible for the wide variety of duties and responsibilities.
 
The Training Center is host to the Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy and the Basic Corrections Officer Academy.  After graduating from the academy, new deputies and corrections officers are under the guidance and supervision of the Field Training Officer and Corrections Training Officer at the Training Center. In addition to the Field Training Program and Corrections Officer Training Program, the Training Center is also responsible for producing the quarterly Training Bulletin, facilitating Advanced Officer Training and instructing and coordinating advanced training opportunities for the Department and other agencies.

The Pima Regional Training Center (PRTC) is a live fire facility with five ranges to accommodate a wide variety of firearms training for approximately sixty agencies. There is also a live fire tactical area, a room dedicated to firearms simulation training, and sections of the facility dedicated to Explosive Ordinance Disposal Training and K-9 Training. The staff at the Pima regional Center is comprised of one commissioned sergeant and three commissioned deputies.  The Training Staff at the PRTC is responsible for coordinating and instructing Advanced Officer Training, tactical training, basic firearms training and firearms qualifications.
