The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is in the process of organizing and spearheading the Pima Metro – Regional S.W.A.T. program. Once again, we are taking the lead in local law enforcement innovations.
This Regional S.W.A.T. team will be comprised of officers from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, Oro Valley, Marana, South Tucson, Sahuarita, Tohono O’Odham and Pasqua Yaqui Police Departments, and the Tucson Airport Authority.
The goal is to create the largest and most capable tactical team in the State of Arizona. We expect to have over 50 tactical operators, over 15 negotiators, and 10 tactical medics from the Northwest Fire Department.
The new Regional S.W.A.T. team will be organized into the following: four tactical squads, two negotiations squads, an EOD/bomb squad, and a medical support squad. Personnel from each agency will be divided among the eight squads, creating an equally diverse and strong team.
Regionalization is a growing nationwide trend among special operations assets in law enforcement. By combining personnel and resources, the Regional S.W.A.T. team will have the ability to handle two large-scale tactical operations or four warrant service missions simultaneously. This effort will provide an unmatched level of response for each participating agency and the communities they serve.
