New Grant-Funded Vehicles

Through the use of grant funding, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department has added to its fleet of law-enforcement vehicles.

The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) has provided the Department with a state of the art D.U.I. van for use at sobriety checkpoints and all Southern Arizona D.U.I. Task Force operations. The van will be used to transport equipment to checkpoints and will also provide a place, out of the elements, to conduct law enforcement phlebotomy procedures when necessary.

In addition to the GOHS funding, the Pima Regional S.W.A.T. Team received a WMD grant from the Office of Homeland Security. These funds were utilized to purchase two (2) armored vehicles – Ballistic Engineered Armored Response and Rescue vehicles. The “Bear” is full-sized and the “Bear-Cat” is a mid-sized vehicle. These are high-tech S.W.A.T. vehicles that offer the latest protection and technology available to law enforcement. All agencies who participate in Pima Regional S.W.A.T. will benefit from the use of these vehicles at S.W.A.T. call-outs.
