Deputy Ann Spencer was awarded the 2004 Green Valley Elks Lodge “Deputy of the Year” Award. Deputy Spencer was honored at the Elks Lodge’s annual banquet on February 26, 2004, for her outstanding work stemming from a dangerous encounter she had December 17, 2003.
After making a traffic stop of a suspicious vehicle, Deputy Spencer was shot at by the driver of that vehicle as the passenger fled. Deputy Spencer returned fire, striking the suspect. The suspect was later convicted and sentenced to 15 years in prison for aggravated assault on a police officer and marijuana smuggling charges.
Deputy Spencer has been with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department since 1985. She began her career as a Corrections Officer working at the Pima County Jail and promoted to Deputy in a very short time. Her performance has been exemplary in all of her assignments which include patrol deputy, criminal investigator, trainer, and counselor. She has been in the Green Valley District serving the community as a dedicated patrol deputy since April 2002.
