Awarding of Posthumous Medals

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department posthumously awarded medals to Deputy Timothy D. Graham and Mr. Dawud Isa Abusida in August 2005.

On August 10, 2005, at approximately 7:52pm, Deputy Timothy D. Graham responded to the Circle K located at Ajo Highway and Kinney Road; someone had reported a suspicious person. As Deputy Graham approached, the subject became increasingly irrational and combative and ran across Ajo Highway. Deputy Graham pursued the subject and caught up with him at the median on Ajo Highway. A physical altercation ensued. A passerby, identified as Mr. Dawud Isa Abusida, saw Deputy Graham struggling with the subject and stopped to assist. The altercation continued into the intersection where all three individuals were struck and killed by an oncoming vehicle.

Deputy Graham was awarded the Honorable Service Medal and Purple Heart for the courage and honor he displayed everyday while protecting the citizens of Pima County. Deputy Graham valiantly gave his life while performing the job he loved and dreamed of as a child. Deputy Graham’s medals were presented to his wife, Sherry Graham, and his mother, Judy Graham.
