The 20th Anniversary Awards Banquet was dedicated to the memory of Deputy Timothy David Graham, who was tragically killed in the line of duty on August 10, 2005.

On November 18, 2005, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department proudly hosted its annual Awards Banquet, its 20th Anniversary. The banquet provides an opportunity for the Department to formally recognize its members, citizens of the community, and other law enforcement professionals who have performed in an exceptional manner over the past year.

This year’s recipients include:

• A deputy and private citizen who honorably gave their lives while protecting the citizens of Pima County;
• A Department member who donated a life-saving kidney to a fellow deputy’s son;
• A deputy who saved a 3-year-old child from a burning house;
• A corrections officer who withstood a brutal beating from an inmate who was attempting to escape;
• A corrections officer who stopped to render aide at a fatal collision;
• A citizen who refused to allow drug dealers, gang thugs, and prostitutes to take over her neighborhood;
• Two citizens assisting in the detection and apprehension of an armed bank robber;
• A five-year-old boy alerting his family to a fire and getting them out of the house safely; and,
• A sergeant applying for and obtaining grant monies to assist in the investigations of cold cases.

In all, 52 individuals were honored with awards from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. We applaud each recipient for their professionalism and commitment to public safety in our community. However, we should not forget that those who have been singled out to receive an award are just a small sample of the remarkable work done by many others on a daily basis. We would be remiss if we did not recognize and praise their efforts as well.

The dedication, honor, and integrity shown by all Department members has helped to make the Pima County Sheriff’s Department one of the most respected public safety organizations in Arizona and the United States.
