The Pima County Sheriff’s Department will be honoring volunteers that have achieved a milestone in service to the Sheriff’s Department and this community. Thirty-five (35) volunteers representing the Tucson Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers, Green Valley Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers, and the Sheriff’s Posse will be honored in this unprecedented event. Sheriff Clarence W. Dupnik will present recipients with the Department’s Volunteer Service Medal. The Volunteer Service Medal is awarded to Department volunteers that have achieved 5,000 hours and 10 years of service to the Department and citizens of Pima County.
The Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers operate in Tucson, Green Valley, and Ajo. These volunteers provide service ranging from park and community patrols, adult and child fingerprinting services, Neighborhood Watch and related services, emergency response support to patrol deputies, and a variety of other support services.
The Sheriff’s Posse provides extensive mounted horseback support to our Search & Rescue Unit in locating and rescuing lost and injured person in the wilderness.
The services provided by these volunteers to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, to Pima County, and to the citizens in this community provide significant cost savings. Since inception of these volunteer programs, tens of millions of dollars have been saved in personnel cost that otherwise paid Department personnel would have had to provide.
Please join us in honoring those individuals that have achieved this milestone in their volunteer career on April 21, 2008, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, at the Hilton East located at 7600 E. Broadway Blvd. |
