On November 11, 2007, at approximately 1:00am, the Pima County Sheriff’s Communications Unit broadcast that a juvenile inmate, in Federal custody on two pending federal murder charges, had escaped from Gila County. He and another inmate assaulted a Corrections Officer and stole his phone. It was determined that the escapee, a 17-year-old juvenile, contacted a family member in the Tucson area. It was further believed that he would potentially be driving to the Tucson area, that he was possibly armed and dangerous, and should be considered an extreme risk.
Deputy Rupp, of the San Xavier Patrol District, placed himself in the area of Ajo and Fuller in an attempt to possibly locate the escapee. He conducted a records check on a vehicle that came back to a known family member of the escapee. A high-risk traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle at which time a male fled from the vehicle. The juvenile escapee was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit and taser deployment. The escapee's brother and father were also in the vehicle.
All three individuals were turned over to the United States Marshall’s Office. |
