In an attempt to clarify information in reference to the suspect in the attempted child abduction calls, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department is releasing the following information. This is a timeline of reports of a similar nature and possible suspect descriptions.
On April 9, 2007, at approximately 6:25pm, deputies from the Rincon District were dispatched to the 5300 blk. of North Sabino Canyon Road in reference to suspicious activity. Upon arrival, they learned from a mother that her twelve (12) year-old son and seven (7) year-old daughter were walking home from school and were approached by a male suspect who told the older child, “Give me your sister, or I’ll kill you.” The brother took his sister and they both ran home and reported the incident to their mother. The children described the suspect as being a Caucasian male, late 20s, wearing sunglasses and a black and gray hat and blue jeans. Deputies searched; however, the suspect was not located.
On October 2, 2007, at approximately 8:00am, deputies from the Rincon District responded to the 4200 blk. of North Melpomene in reference to a suspicious vehicle near a bus stop. Upon arrival, deputies learned that a 9th grade student was at the bus stop at Prince and Avenida De Otero when an older model white Chevrolet pickup truck, with gray spots, drove by at approximately 6:55am and slowed down. The victim described the suspect as being approximately 18 – 22 years old, skinny, goatee, reddish brown hair, wearing a white shirt. The victim ran away and reported the incident when she got to school.
On October 4, 2007, at approximately 9:30pm, a mother reported that her daughter was walking home from a bus stop located in the 5100 blk. of North Sabino Canyon Road on October 2, 2007, at approximately 2:45pm. The daughter (eleven years-old) heard a vehicle approach her from behind. The suspect grabbed her with one arm around the waist and the other was placed over her face. The victim fought and bit the suspect on his hand, escaped, and ran home. The victim got a brief look at the suspect and he is described as being tall with a goatee. He was also wearing a dark baseball cap and sunglasses. The victim was not able to get a vehicle description. A composite sketch of the suspect was completed and distributed on October 17, 2007.
On October 23, 2007, at approximately 3:45pm, deputies from the Foothills District made telephone contact with a 15 year-old male who advised that he and two friends were getting off the bus and walking on Chula Vista when he observed a white, older Nissan pickup truck with a small camper shell. The victim stated he felt that the vehicle was following him and his friends. The victim described the driver of the vehicle as being a Caucasian male, goatee, wearing a light colored tee shirt and possibly a baseball cap. The vehicle sped away.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is taking these incidents very seriously. All School Resource Officers are aware of the incidents surrounding their school districts. Anyone with information about this suspect or associated vehicle is asked to contact 911 or 88-CRIME. |
