On September 20, 2007, a three-month old child was taken to University Medical Center for eye hemorrhaging and breathing difficulties. The nursing staff immediately recognized signs of child abuse and separated the child from her family. Law enforcement was contacted and detectives from the Crimes Against Children responded for further investigation.
The victim was treated and required surgery to stop bleeding into her chest cavity. She was found to have numerous broken ribs in various stages of healing, fractures in the right tibia and fibula consistent with past injury. Possible fractures were also noted to both femurs. A CAT scan noted that the victim had a fracture to the skull. The victim was sent to the Intensive Care Unit for recovery.
On October 16, 2007, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Carlos Jesus Pizano (DOB 01/09/78) for child abuse and domestic violence in reference to intentionally causing physical harm to his child.
On October 17, 2007, at approximately 9:30 am, Mr. Pizano was arrested at his residence in the 2900 blk. of West Camino Bueno. He was transported to the Pima County Adult Detention Center where he was booked on the aforementioned charges.
