An additional arrest has been made in connection with the murder of Jonas Mendivil Gastelum.  The badly burned body of Mr. Gastelum (DOB 05/17/74) was found in the 9700 blk. of S. Swan Road on December 9, 2006.

Jose Orlando Renteria (DOB 08/10/85) was arrested on Wednesday, October 3, 2007, following a continued intensive investigation by the Pima County Sheriff’s Homicide Unit.  Homicide detectives learned that Mr. Renteria had fled to Mexico, however found evidence that he was a U.S. Citizen.  Investigators have been working with Mexican authorities to locate Mr. Renteria.  Necessary paperwork, including arrest warrant information and proof of U.S. Citizenship, was provided to the Mexican authorities.

On Wednesday, October 3, 2007, Mexican authorities located Mr. Renteria in Agua Prieta and coordinated the transfer of Mr. Renteria to U.S. Customs officials in Douglas, Arizona.  Pima County Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives were notified of the apprehension.  U.S. Customs contacted the Douglas Police Department at which time Mr. Renteria was served an arrest warrant and booked into the Cochise County Jail in Bisbee, Arizona.
