*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*

Animal Cruelty

On June 19, 2007,  the Pima County Sheriff’s Department received information from the Humane Society that an anonymous tip had come into their office reference animal cruelty.  Animal Cruelty detectives responded to the 6100 blk. of W. Golden Buckbye where they found a dead rooster with blood all over its head.  In addition, there were over 350 roosters and chickens being housed in hundreds of cages/enclosures or “A” frame housing.

Armed with a search warrant, detectives entered storage areas where evidence was collected connecting this property to a cock fighting ring.  Evidence included antibiotics, syringes, and hauling boxes.   A caretaker on the property was arrested for identity theft and false reporting.  He is identified as Francisco Quijada Flores (DOB 07/19/65).  He is an illegal border crosser and will be turned over to U.S. Customs and Border Protection upon his release from jail.

In one of the storage buildings, detectives found marijuana residue, wrapping paper, and large quantities of saran wrap and packaging; indicating evidence of drug trafficking.  In the same building, a tunnel was discovered under hay bales.  The tunnel led to three separate underground storage rooms; however, nothing was housed in those areas.

Detectives are continuing their investigation into criminal charges in reference to animal cruelty, cock fighting, and possible drug charges.

Photographs taken during the execution of the search warrant are available at the Pima County Sheriff’s Administration Building located at 1750 E. Benson Hwy.  A mug shot of Mr. Flores is also available.
