| On June 1, 2007, homicide detectives responded to Sasabee Hwy, MP 9, to follow-up on information that a reported missing man had possibly been murdered and thrown into a mine shaft. The victim, identified as Danny Lee Gatlin (DOB 10/24/59), was thought to be missing since October of 2006.
Information received recently through an unrelated investigation revealed that Mr. Gatlin was the victim of a murder. A firearm believed to be the murder weapon was retrieved. In a cooperative effort with the Tucson A.T.F., additional information led detectives to the original homicide scene in Arivaca.
Mr. Gatlin was found approximately 20 feet below the surface by Search and Rescue personnel. He was found wrapped in blankets and severely decomposed. Autopsy results indicate that Mr. Gatlin suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
