*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*

El Tour de Tucson

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department would like to remind the public that on Saturday, November 18, 2006, the 23rd Annual El Tour de Tucson will be making its way around Tucson on a one hundred nine (109) mile course.  The event will begin at 7:00am and end at 6:00pm at Broadway and Congress and will consist of over 6,400 bicyclists.  The bicyclists’ path of travel will include the west, south, east, and north sides of Pima County.

Intersections will be shut down for this event at various times during the day by uniformed law enforcement to assist bicyclists and to ensure their safety, as well as the safety of motorists.  Please use caution and EXPECT DELAYS!

* * * SUNRISE / CRAYCROFT AREA * * *

Bicyclists will be traveling westbound on Sunrise across Craycroft throughout the day. Because this area is under construction, it is imperative for motorists to realize that the safety of both bicyclists and motorists are of the utmost importance.  Therefore, eastbound and westbound traffic on Sunrise will be diverted onto southbound Craycroft.  Motorists traveling southbound will continue southbound and those traveling northbound will continue northbound. Again, there will be no eastbound or westbound traffic allowed on Sunrise at Craycroft.  Motorists are highly encouraged to avoid the Sunrise/Craycroft intersection between the hours of 8:00am and 3:00pm.

Thank you for your attention to this very important matter
