The Green Valley District is the southernmost of the six patrol districts of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. It is located to the south and east of Sahuarita, following the I-19 corridor south to the Santa Cruz County line. The largest population center is the unincorporated community of Green Valley, with a population of about 26,000 residents. Green Valley is predominately known as a retirement community, with a median age of 72. Though Green Valley is experiencing a building boom, and has more year-round residents than ever, its population is somewhat transient as it fluctuates with the seasons.
As the Tucson area continues to attract newcomers, the Green Valley District will continue to see population growth increases in Green Valley and especially to the east of Sahuarita and Amado, in the Elephant Head area.
The rural communities of Arivaca and Sasabe, combined population of approximately 1,100, are located near the Mexico border and are about 60 miles southwest of Tucson. Each community has their own distinct character far removed from the urban lifestyle of Tucson.
Besides being a well-known retirement community, Green Valley is also known for its magnificent golf courses and volunteer spirit. The Pima County Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers of Green Valley, a nationally recognized volunteer assist team, work hand-in-hand with Pima County Sheriff’s deputies in fighting crime and providing a second set of eyes and ears for the community. Just another way in which the Pima County Sheriff’s Department strives to make your community a safer place!
