Comments and concerns expressed by the Green Valley District Commander.

Greetings to All,

Welcome again to the Green Valley Patrol District webpage. I would like to thank those who have submitted ideas and topics of interest and concern. It is hoped that each time you visit you will receive valuable information that you can use to help protect you and your family and to make life more secure and enjoyable here in the Green Valley area.

Topic One –Driving Responsibly

In a community such as Green Valley, there is a diverse mixture of drivers and vehicle traffic on the roadways. It is important that every driver realize that it is their responsibility to operate their vehicle in a safe and conscientious manner. Every time you get behind the wheel, please remove all distractions that may take your attention away from the most important task at hand - DRIVING. Distractions come in a variety of forms: cell phone, navigation devices, putting on make-up, reading a map or newspaper, or having an intense conversation with passengers. Never operate a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol - "Never drink and drive!"

I encourage all motorists in our area to participate in a driver’s evaluation program, “AAA-Roadwise Review,” provided by the Green Valley Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers. This is a computer based evaluation program that provides an assessment of individual’s driving abilities. It was created to help seniors drive safely, longer, and also helps to identify steps to reduce risks behind the wheel. Call the Green Valley SAV office at (520) 547-6744 to schedule an appointment to test your driving abilities.

Topic Two – Protect Your Property

An increase in population typically brings an increase in crime. There are steps we can all take to minimize our chances of becoming a victim of theft:

  1. Keep your property locked up and out of sight
  2. Don't leave garage doors open
  3. Don't leave doors unlocked
  4. Don't leave valuables out in plain sight
  5. Keep track of your purse, wallet, golf clubs, etc.

Don't make it easy for a thief to make you their victim!

The Pima County Sheriff's Department has implemented a program called "Safe-Link." The purpose of this program is to provide information, via e-mail, to the public concerning criminal activity and trends in their areas. To sign up for "Safe-Link," click here. Sign up today!

Another new program offered by the Department and the Green Valley SAV is the "Mark-n-Guard" anti-auto theft program. This grant funded program will etch the vehicle's identification number into all of the vehicle's glass. This program is free of charge and takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. Contact the Green Valley SAV for more information or to schedule an appointment.

Topic Three – Frauds, Scams, and Identity Theft

Frauds and scams continue to be on the rise and criminals are becoming more clever. Because of this, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department’s Community Resources Unit is providing information to the community through media releases titled “Scam of the Week.” You may obtain copies of these media releases at the Green Valley District Office, at the Green Valley SAV office, or on the Pima County Sheriff’s Department’s website, Media Releases.

And finally, the Sheriff's Department has developed a comprehensive resource guide that covers topics from barking dogs, to loud music, to starting a Neighborhood Watch. The guide also provides important telephone numbers of local agencies. Stop by the Green Valley District office to pick up a copy of the Neighborhood Resource Guide or click here to download a copy today.
